Phase two of the Moffat Spitfire Project will involve setting up an ongoing educational experience that will bring to life the story of Lord Dowding, ‘the Few’ and the courage and sacrifice of the men who protected this country from invasion in 1940.

Working with Moffat's Old Well Theatre, the aim will be to deliver an immersive and interactive educational experience for school children throughout Scotland and beyond.

The idea behind the project is to bring to life the history which has afforded for young people the freedoms we all enjoy today as a result of the contributions of Lord Dowding and the valiant air and ground crews of the Battle of Britain.

While the ideas are still being worked on, our interactive experience is likely to feature a combination of actual historical footage from the period together with purpose-made audio and visual features, complemented by interaction from an actor we have christened "Pilot Andy".

The sessions will feature challenges, games and missions to promote learning through fun activities. We hope to be able to subsidise transport costs and provide follow-up with schools to ensure that we are delivering a valuable educational experience.
